Naked Triple

How it works

If three cells in one house share three candidates between them — that is, the union of their candidates is just three digits — those three digits use up all three cells. No cell needs all three: two each is enough as long as the union is three.

It is a Naked Pair widened by one cell, hence the shared name (triple = three). Those three digits are removed from the rest of the house. Unlike a pair it takes counting the union to see, which makes it easy to miss.

Worked example

● evidence✕ eliminated★ confirmed

In row 4, the 3 cells R4C2, R4C4, R4C8 have no candidates other than 2, 4, 7 (marked ●).

Those 3 cells share 2, 4, 7 between them, so those digits are removed from the other 4 cells of row 4 (✕).
